As the only Independent in the race, Brian Haynes is eager to be a voice of all the people of Asheville to address the urgent issues of affordable housing, living wages, safety, transportation and support of our arts culture. Asheville stands at a crossroads of development that Brian is particularly well suited to help us navigate for the highest good, based on being a native son, years as an employee of Habitat for Humanity , and his connection to the music, arts and small business communities. Vote Local on November 3 y’all! please LIKE the campaign FB page if you have not Vote Local – Brian Haynes for Asheville City Council
BRIAN NOT ONLY NEEDS YOUR VOTE, BUT ALSO FOR YOU TO BE AN ACTIVE VOLUNTEER ON ELECTION DAY AND/OR GRASSROOTS DONOR:
WORK THE POLLS! In addition to getting out the vote, the campaign will also be assembling as many volunteers as possible to work the polling places to make sure all voters know about Brian’s grassroots independent campaign for City Council. This is a highly effective means to garner votes, as we learned from Brian’s second place primary victory. Please consider signing up for a shift to work the polls on November 3 by contacting Linda Brown directly at [email protected]; 828.236.3720.
PLEASE DONATE! Please consider making a campaign donating in the final weeks of the campaign at http://

On the website, Brian explains his reasons for running:
As a native son and long time resident of Asheville, I have decided to run for Asheville City Council to serve the people and city I love.
In recent years it seems that we have put more emphasis on growth than we have on meeting the concerns and well-being of our citizens.
As a former downtown business owner who, along with many other independent, like-minded entrepreneurs, helped bring about the rebirth of downtown, I would like to see that same sort of organic reasonable growth be the model for our future.
While tourism is important, looking out for the best interests of the residents, workers, local businesses the infra structure of the city and those not being heard is equally important. I want to be a progressive voice that works toward these goals.
I intend to serve all the people of Asheville; and also to be an advocate for those least represented, such as the working class who can not afford to live here and the African-American community who has seen little benefit from our recent years of growth.
Finally, I do not pretend to have all the answers, but I will be a good listener and an honest broker for all.
