Why is the Altamont the Best Live Music Venue in Asheville?
The Altamont Theatre has been proud to bring musicians of all kinds to the stage in the past including the talent of GRAMMY Winners Mark O’Connor, Jim Lauderdale, Beausoleil avec Michael Doucet, Mike Farris, Peter Asher, John Paul White, Karla Bonoff, Shawn Camp, John Berry and Jon Vezner. We have also hosted shows by other well-recognized names like Sturgil Simpson, Dean Ween Group, Milk Carton Kids, Leon Redbone, John Cowan, Darrell Scott, Ozric Tentacles, Mary Gauthier, Bill Staines, Livingston Taylor, James McCartney, Todd Sheaffer, Pierre Bensusan, Noah Gundersen, Eric Lindell, Zach Williams (Lone Bellow), Fred Eaglesmith, Penny & Sparrow, Mike Dillon, Ryan Montbleau and Zach Deputy, to name a few!
Our mission is to bring the absolute best quality and biggest names in music we can. Our Talent Buyer has curated and produced over 1,000 shows in Asheville and has a great ear for talent and connections to all the biggest booking agencies in the country. This allows us to bring in some big names to The Altamont despite the small size of our listening room.
Rather than be limited by size, we use it to our advantage to produce shows by well-known artists in an intimate setting. This is what makes us the best place to see live music in Asheville. Our room, which offers amazing acoustics and sound, creates a powerful connection between the artists and the audience you won’t find anywhere else in the city.
We are also the only venue in town that might have a bluegrass show on a Thursday night, a Grateful Dead tribute on a Friday night, a Writing Workshop or Yoga class on a Saturday morning and then a Wedding that same night. We invite a wide variety of musical acts, comedy troupes, classes, meetings, private events, weddings, and receptions to book our space. Our goals is to make every event a success and to make everyone visiting The Altamont feel like they belong.
Why do We Call Our Music Venue a “Listening Room?”
We’re the only true listening room in Asheville, so we provide people with a unique experience. When you see a show at The Altamont there are no distractions. Once we close those big wooden doors there’s no outside sound, there is just you and the musicians playing. Even our bar is located outside the stage area in our downstairs lobby.
We’ve been awarded “Best Listening Room” in the Best of WNC Awards five out of the last six years, so it’s clear the people agree and really enjoy seeing a show at our venue. Visit our beautiful space and you may get to see world class, GRAMMY winning performers from literally feet away, in a setting where you can hear a pin drop.
