Gene Clark and Gram Parsons are two of popular music’s most visionary and inspired songwriters. A pair of kindred spirits, Gram and Gene were friends and fans of one another who literally sang each other’s praises.

Raised on rock’n’roll and fostered by folk music, their careers each took flight as members of The Byrds. Gene co-founded the group, filling the early albums with his brilliant and hypnotic numbers. Gram joined up briefly but boldly, steering the group to Nashville, the Opry, and the seminal ‘Sweetheart of the Rodeo’ album.

After leaving the Byrds, Gene Clark released a groundbreaking album of his own, flavored with country as well as baroque pop and psychedelic sounds. He then joined forces with bluegrass trailblazer Doug Dillard to create some of the first “newgrass” before pursuing a decades-long solo career and establishing himself as one of the finest singer-songwriters of all-time.

Gram Parsons went on to form the influential and flamboyant Flying Burrito Brothers with another former Byrd, Chris Hillman. He also forged a deep bond with Keith Richards and his influence can be heard in much of the Stones’ output from that era and beyond. Gram eventually teamed with a then-unknown Emmylou Harris and completed two sterling solo albums before his untimely demise at the age of 26.
