Elements of soul, folk, and gypsy jazz combine in Lizzy Ross and Omar Ruiz-Lopez’s original songs. Their lyrics channel the mystical and the ordinary to convey a sense of wonder at simply being alive. Ross’s “voice like cigarettes and the smoothest whiskey you’ve ever tasted” (Stephen Markley, Chicago RedEye) are uplifted by Ruiz-Lopez’s musical wizardry on the violin, cello, guitar, mandolin, and more. Whether they’re playing an intimate acoustic tune or sprawling out in psychedelic revelry, you can feel the magic.
Lizzy Ross and Omar Ruiz-Lopez play original songs out of Durham, NC. Together, these two artists make music you can feel in your bones. Their recent live album Violet Bell captures the magic and tells the story of their love for music in the best possible medium: song.
Lizzy Ross made a name for herself in NC and beyond with her stirring original songs and “a voice like cigarettes and the smoothest whiskey you’ve ever tasted” (Stephen Markley, Chicago RedEye). Omar Ruiz-Lopez (Jonathan Byrd, Crystal Bright, the Durham Symphony Orchestra) elevates the music with violin, guitar, cello, mandolin, and stellar vocal harmonies.
Ross and Ruiz-Lopez played and toured for years before their paths crossed. When they finally did meet, it was electric. The duo brings this passion and energy to their live shows. Whether they’re playing an intimate acoustic tune or sprawling out in psychedelic revelry, you can feel the magic.
